What do I do if I am currently experiencing an emergency?

If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

If you are otherwise in crisis (e.g., experiencing suicidal thoughts), you can:

  • Call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 (Talk), 24/7
  • Text HOME to 741741 to reach the National Crisis TextLine, 24/7
  • Call the SWP at 501-686-8408 between 8 AM and 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

What services do you provide?

We provide counseling, therapy, psychiatric evaluation, and medication management services to address the broad spectrum of problems affecting UAMS students, including stress, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, substance use issues, burnout, and other emotional problems.

We do not provide specialized testing services (e.g., evaluation for learning disabilities or ADHD).

What are your office hours?

8 AM-4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

How do I make an appointment?

Call 501-686-8408 and identify yourself as a UAMS student.

How soon can I expect to be seen when I call for an appointment?

We will do our best to see you as soon as possible.  If the situation is urgent, we will see you within a day or two.

Do I have to pay for your services?

No, our services are free. However, if you choose to take medication, you will need to use your health insurance and will likely have a co-pay.

Is there a place to park when I have a session?

The SWP has several reserved parking spots for students right outside the front door.

Do I have to pay for parking?

No, parking is free.

Will my visits, the information I share, and my health records be kept private and confidential?

Yes, maintaining your confidentiality is our highest priority.  We will not share information about your care with anyone unless we have written permission from you

There are a few rare exceptions: if we are concerned about the immediate safety of you or someone else; if we suspect child abuse or neglect or the abuse, neglect, or exploitation of endangered or impaired adults; and in the event of a court order.

Where are you located?

The SWP office is located on campus in the Mediplex Building. You can find us off West Markham between Burger King and Biomed II across from the Fire Station.

Will my visits be documented in EPIC, the UAMS electronic medical records system?

No. The SWP maintains its own medical records and is not connected to EPIC.

What is the Interactive Screening Program (ISP)?

Some students are reluctant to seek help for emotional problems because of stigma, lack of familiarity with mental health resources, or cultural differences. For many, it’s not especially easy to pick up the phone and make an appointment.

The Interactive Screening Program (ISP), provided through a partnership between UAMS and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), allows students to connect with SWP mental health professionals anonymously via the web. Click here to find out more.

What if I am not located in the UAMS campus in Little Rock and need services?
